Crew member missing after tanker catches fire


KUANTAN: A Myanmar crew member of a chemical tanker which caught fire on Monday has been reported missing.

The body of the crew who fell into the sea has yet to be found.

Two other crew mmbers sustained burns in the incident.

Eastern Region Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) operations director Syd Mohd Fuzi Syd Hassan identified the missing man as Wai Ph Yosan, 23.

The injured, Wu Nna Htun, 30, and Tun Tun Win, 39, have been warded at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

The men were part of 22 crewmen on board the chemical-laden, Singapore-based tanker when the fire broke out about 11am.

Syd Mohd Fuzi said, crewmen were in the midst of cleaning the tanker which was heading to the Kuantan Port from Vietnam when the fire broke out.

He said MMEA had deployed two rescue boats to help a Royal Malaysian Navy team to locate the missing victim
